When to Consider Veneers

People with healthy teeth and gums are the best candidates for porcelain veneers. They serve as an aesthetic treatment by concealing the healthy tooth behind them. Dr. Ross and Dr. Draayer frequently recommend veneers for:

  • Severe staining and discoloration
  • Teeth that are crooked
  • Enamel that is uneven or slightly chipped
  • Gaps between teeth

The Dental Veneer Procedure

Getting cosmetic veneers generally requires two separate visits spaced about two weeks apart. To prepare your teeth for the first visit, we will gently buff off a thin layer of enamel. Because this step is quite conservative, it can be completed without the use of local anesthesia if desired.

After we've prepared your teeth, we'll take impressions for our lab to use as they handcraft each restoration. Following that, we'll collaborate to determine the best porcelain shade for your personal appearance and cosmetic goals. Then, while the permanent veneers are being designed, we'll apply a set of temporary veneers for you to wear.

Assuming you're happy with how everything looks, you'll return about a week or two later to have the porcelain veneers tried on and bonded in place.

Care and Maintenance of Veneers

You want your new veneers to last as long as possible. That’s why it's important to keep your new restorations in good condition. Flossing should be an everyday affair. Carefully wrap the floss around your veneer and slide it up and down several times, tucking it just below the gum line. Move the floss to the next tooth by lifting it over your gums.

We also recommend sleeping in a night guard to prevent any chipping in the porcelain.
